All great ideas have a beginning. The Centre for Disruptive Tech was born out of a collaboration between members of the of Singularity University's Global Studies Program and the Singularity Institute of Africa. Since then, we have grown to a global network of people who are passionate about harnessing the power of disruptive tech to meet business and societal challenges in Africa.
Meet the Founders

Sharron McPherson has over 25 years experience as an accomplished
investment banker and former Wall Street attorney. For the past 18 years she has lived and worked in South Africa where she continues to advise and teach. She has been at the forefront of the movement to invest differently in African women and youth and is a founding member of Women in Infrastructure Development & Energy (WINDE) and New Faces New Voices (an initiative spearheaded by Graça Machel). Sharron is also passionate about leverage advancing technologies for development in Africa. She presently teaches Project Finance at the University of Cape Town’s Graduate School of Business and is a founder of Singularity University South Africa.

Margaret O'Connor steers SocialTech and FinTech enterprises from ideation through proof of concept to commercialization. The Silicon Valley venture-funded entrepreneur has more than 20 years operating experience in Africa.
The former MasterCard International New Technology executive was responsible for establishing trust and strategic partnerships with start-ups (inlcuding PayPal founders) regulators (including Chinese, Indian, and Vietnam central bankers) and global media (CNBC, Reuters, London FT, Bloomberg). After establishing a New York-based video distribution and measurement platform that serviced global Olympic and Detroit Auto Show sponsors, she moved to Johannesburg and wrote for the London Financial Times while starting a family. She recently kick-started CDT's Adventure Capitalist Network.

Dr. Kwame Amuah is a widely respected academic and entrepreneur who believes in the power of technology and its potential to address the major challenges facing humanity, and Africa in particular. A nuclear scientist and alumnus of Harvard University, Dr. Amuah has wide experience in business and international affairs. He was special advisor to the Minister for Science and Technology and represented the Govt. of South Africa on the United Nations sponsored conferences and served on the United Nations technical and scientific committee. Dr. Amuah is the Son In Law of Mr. Nelson Mandela. He is also founder of the Singularity Institute of Africa.
